Year 1991 was the
time period that originally brought Washington DC’s Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia
and Sharam Tayebi together. The two were mastering their mixing skills at
local DC parties and clubs when a booking mishap put them on deck duty at
the same time. Sharam and Ali discovered that they had a great potential in
common, mainly a distinct vision for bridging the gap between the different
styles of electronic music. After the birth of
Deep Dish Records, D. D.
led to their production skills and DJing attracting the attention of Tribal
America Records; combining with D. D. appearing and mixing on the now
classic Penetrate Deeper compilation.
By 1995, the doors
for them flew wide open globally; with numerous collaborations with old
school friend like Brian “BT” Transeau and z remix of DeLacy’s ‘Hideaway’.
D. D. released
their debut album Junk Science in 1998, a mix of jazz-tinged soul, deep lush
house and moody atmospherics. With the success of singles like ‘The Future
Of The Future’ by Stay Gold with beautiful vocals of Everything But The
Girl’s Tracey Thorn, the album made a statement of their talent for making
records that sound as good on any stereo and on the radio. Following Junk
Science, Deep Dish continued with the mix compilation albums: Yoshiesque,
Renaissance Ibiza, Yoshiesque 2 and Global Underground: Moscow.
In 2001, duo earned
their first Grammy Award nomination in the ‘Remix Of The Year’ for their mix
of Amber’s ‘Sexual’, their own original production ‘Mohammed Is Jesus,’ and
Madonna’s ‘Music.’ A second nomination followed in 2002 which landed Deep
Dish their first ever Grammy in the ‘Best Remix’ category for their remix of
Dido’s ‘Thank You’ hit single. Today, Deep Dish are widely recognized DJs
around the world for their explosive and yet creative live gig which glues
people to the dance floor for hours.
