Hernan Cattaneo listened to Europop bands
like Simply Red and Level 42, music he found sifting
through Billboard magazine. In 1987, a friend visited Vinylmania in New York
City, and brought back a sweet taste of Chicago house in the form of Trax
and DJ International pressings, artists like Frankie Knuckles, Derrick May
and Inner City. "They blew my mind," exclaims Hernan. "I loved them because
they combined the energy of the Europe's electronic music, like Depeche Mode
and New Order, with the soul of American music. After that, everything
changed for me."
In '98 and '99, Hernan toured the United States with Paul Oakenfold, a tour
that brought him to many high profile events including the Red Rocks
Amphitheatre in Denver and Nevada's Burning Man festival. Soon enough
residencies followed at Cream in Liverpool and Ibiza, Perfecto in Ibiza, and
events at all the big European festivals, as well as dancefloors from
Iceland to Singapore. In summer of 2001, Hernan played at Channel 4's event
at Clapham Common, playing to a stunning 70,000 screaming fans.
Other
outstanding performances by Hernan include the Bedrock anniversary in
October 2001, Cream anniversaries in Liverpool and the last 3 years
Creamfields events, Homelands 2001 and headlining Creamfields in Buenos
Aires. By the end of last year, Hernan made # 50 on the DJ chart with his
club hit "Deep Funk" blowing up the charts, and the cover of DJ magazine.
September 2001, Hernan was a winner of the 'Best Newcomer DJ' at the Pacha
Ibiza awards.
During the summer of 2002
Hernan Cattaneo played throughout the UK at
Homelands, Renaissance, The End, Bedrock, Shindig, Cream, Back to Basics,
